The article is devoted to the important role of non-verbal communication in the educational process and the correct interpretation of non-verbal signals of students by teachers. It is known that nonverbal communication is a type of communication without the help of speech and language means, presented in the form of signals. The author notes that if verbal communication stimulates cognitive aspirations for learning, then non-verbal communication stimulates the feelings and attitude of students to the educational process. Examples of the most common non-verbal cues (silence, body language, gestures, etc.) that many teachers can identify and interpret are discussed. Difficulties in identifying non-verbal signals are identified and the explanation of what causes them is given. The need for observation and correct interpretation of nonverbal signs is emphasized, because only when we can understand exactly what is happening, we can think about how students learn, what interests and feelings they bring to the learning process. This is important so that, if necessary, teachers can reorient teaching and help students make the learning process more effective and efficient. In the course of the research, the following methods were used: general scientific - analytical (analysis of domestic scientific literature on psychology, pedagogy, teaching methods of foreign language and the works of foreign scientists-researchers of non-verbal communication); pedagogical - observation and generalization of empirical material about non-verbal behavior of students in the classroom.
