The novel "Gulliver's travels" by J. Swift in Russian reception (the last third of XVIII - the beginning of the XIX century)

The object of the article is the early reception of D. Swift's work in Russian culture. The article presents the facts, which were studied before and have been discovered recently in Russian science: the information about Russian editions of the writer's works, first reader's responses and critical assessments. An attempt has been made to restore the versions of the appearance of the Russian translation and the publication of the novel "Gulliver's Travels", and also the details of the perception of image of Gulliver among other literary heroes-travelers have been recreated. The idea of the creative individuality of J. Swift, that formed in the consciousness of the Russian enlightened society in the XVIII century, is formulated.
