The article analyses «Christmas Day at the Airport». This is one of the stories of the collection of short stories «A Snow Garden and Other Stories» by Rachel Joyce, a modern British author. The stress is done on the artistic means of depiction of the idea of Christmas as the time of magic. And the main magic is still the birth of a human being. The artistic means discussed in the paper are biblical allusions, metaphors, details. Also, the article deals with the relations between parents and children in modern British society depicted in the short story. The paper explores language means of author`s irony on commercialization of the main Christian festival.
