Research in the field of language contacts and linguistic aspects of this process has significantly intensified in recent decades. The problems of studying the cognitive and communicative space of two or more cultures are one of the leading areas in modern research. In the middle of the 20th century, scientists such as Uriel Weinreich and Einar Haugen made progress in research on the nature of language contacts, and their hypotheses have since been revised and refined from many points of view and in a large number of languages. A large proportion of research in this field is devoted to the linguistic aspects of the occurrence of borrowed vocabulary as a result of intercultural dialogue, namely, the causes of borrowing and the further fate of foreign language vocabulary in the recipient language. In addition to the external reasons for borrowing, researchers have noted several intra-linguistic motives. The view within the framework of the cognitive-discursive paradigm on the fate of loanwords in the recipient language, namely Russianisms in English, is of particular interest for our research. The article is devoted to substantiating the relevance of the study of Russianisms in the English language in line with cognitive semantics. The authors define Russianisms, provide the results of the analysis of domestic and foreign studies of Russianisms in the field of linguistics, and also consider the prospects for research in this field. The authors consider one of the interesting and promising areas of research of Russianisms in modern English to be the identification of their interpretative potential and conceptual features as a result of the processes of secondary categorization and secondary conceptualization, which gives the researcher a more visual representation of the place of Russian words in the English-speaking conceptual sphere.
