In this article I will discuss the cultural potential of the Russian Revival style of the middle XIX early XX century, which has been revealed during the construction and architectural and artistic reconstruction of the Kitai Gorod town wall in Moscow. Begun more than a century and a half ago, this process is still incomplete today, for both natural and socio political reasons. Plots related to the pre Revolutionary remediation of the wall, its demolition of the 1930 1940’s, the restoration of the surviving fragments and the reconstruction of the Voskresenkiye Gate can fill the guide’s portfolio with not only architectural, but also urban themes. The walls of the Historical and Polytechnic Museums were chosen as participants of the dialogue of the fortress city and the modernizing city. Combining the existing tourist routes from the Kremlin to Zaryadye, they act as composite nodes of the former fortress, which still serves as the basis of the urban planning system of the Moscow center. Now two buildings claim to be the links holding almost no surviving structure. In my article, I will talk about the visual and communication aspects of revivalism, trace the historical continuity of the Moscow architecture of the XVII XIX centuries, discuss the opportunities in herent in eclecticism to create a comfortable urban environment.
