The article presents the ergonyms of the thematic group from the city of Urgench, Khorezm region, Republic of Uzbekistan. The study utilized linguistic materials from two synchronous time periods in the city: 1982 and 2024, which demonstrates the novelty of the research. The topic of the study is the word formation of Uzbek ergonyms. The direction in linguistics related to anemia began to develop actively in the second half of the twentieth century. Ergonymy is a section that we have highlighted in the course of research in this area. The study of the ergonymy of any language makes it possible to trace the social, cultural and economic development of society, as well as the development of its lexical and grammatical system. Since different languages and methods are used, this direction is usually integrative, which gives the study a synergistic effect. The corpus of examples contains about 150 names from the specified periods. Comparative analysis is the main research method. The principal approach was to study the ergonyms of each period separately, followed by their comparison. The results of the study showed that semantic onymization is the most productive method of ergonym formation in both periods within the framework of the semantic method. However, the internal redistribution of lexical units varies. For instance, in 1982, most ergonyms were represented by simple onymization, whereas in 2024, preference is given to metaphorical onymization in the form of lexicon in a figurative sense, reflecting the pragmatic orientation of the nominators. Over four decades, a significant change in the names of stores has occurred, associated with the development of the region's market economy.
