Family education as an alternative to schooling: advantages and disadvantages

The article reveals the essence of family education as an alternative to school education in matters of legal support of this form of education, identifies advantages and disadvantages, as well as problems associated with the socialization of children in family education. Statistical data on children enrolled in family education in different regions of Russia are also reviewed. The article touches upon the problem of family education from the perspective of parents, analyzes the results of their Internet survey, which demonstrate the difficulties that arise for parents who have decided to teach their children in the family. The study of existing problems in the implementation of family education in terms of parental competence, financial costs, certification of children in basic educational programs leads to conclusions about the need to provide psychological and pedagogical support for this category of parents at the state level.
