Plot-style and seminical originality of A. Tvardovsky’s poem “Vasily Terkin”

The author of the article proceeds from the fact that Tvardovsky’s poetry is a unique evidence of the Soviet era. It is noted that the style of the poem “Vasily Terkin” is close to folklore. The poem is characterized by the form of an epic tale, in which the monologue narration includes the characteristic features of colloquial and everyday writing. The word in the poem “Vasily Terkin” is both ironic and humane; it expresses the essence of the people’s soul, this soul’s wise awareness of the foundations of existence. Using the example of the poem “Vasily Terkin”, the author shows the connection between Russian song and the psychological traits of Tvardovsky’s poetic heroes. He draws attention to the motif of the dispute between life and death, traditional for Russian poetry associated with military themes. In the poem "Vasily Terkin" the hero defeats death thanks to military camaraderie. The ethical and semantic features of the poem are directly correlated with the principles of folk life in Soviet society.
