The paper is a part of the research for Bavaria trauma in Lion Feucht-wanger's “Success”. We focus on Johanna Krain who is one of the author's surrogate in this novel. Her path is similar to the evolution of Feuchtwanger who mentally drifted away from Bavaria and his fellow countrymen. We pay the primary attention to the event with a “border” meaning, namely Johanna's puberty rites. During the rite she experiences a symbolical death and a new birth to receive new knowledge. We use the main studies on the topic by V. Propp and M. Eliade as guides for our research.
