Aspects of the moral mechanism functioning with regard to sociological approaches towards mortality in the group behavior context are examined in the paper. The content of group behavior is revealed through the system of I. Goffman's ideas about frames, stigmas and social imitation. Comparison is made of the views of H. Tarde and E. Durkheim on the theory of imitation and an examination of its modern understanding. The concept of the social imitation inversion is proposed, which, unlike the inversion of thinking, has not been previously described. A set of conditions, under which the phenomenon of social imitation inversion can occur, is identified as an example of a specific historical fact. The perception of death has been shown to correspond with the signs of stigma, which may negatively affect the assessment of meaningful situations as captured in sociocultural practices.
