The semantic differences with the original at the example of two translations of the poem “Don Juan” by G.G. Byron

The article deals with the analysis of two translations of the poem “Don Juan” by G.G. Byron, made in the Soviet era, - the classic version of T.G. Gnedich (1957) and the undeservedly forgotten translation of G.A. Shengeli (1943). The typical for the Soviet school of translation position, that there is no need in the other translations if there is a classical one, came to the situation that the decent work of G.A. Shengeli was totally displaced from the publication. The methods of the work of the translators are given the objective critical analysis.
