The article examines the psychological characteristics of participants in virtual communication with varying degrees of activity on the Internet. An empirical study was carried out, within the framework of which the hypothesis about the presence of such features was partially confirmed. Several techniques were chosen as diagnostic tools, such as E.I. Kosivchenko's questionnaire “Personality activity in a virtual social network”, V.N Kunitsyna's questionnaire “Self-regulation and the success of interpersonal communication” and R. Cattell's 16-factor personality questionnaire. It was found that subjects with a high level of activity on the Internet are sensitive, expressive, active in communication, excitability. They are also characterized by satisfaction with communication among close people. The respondents with average level of activity are characterised by expansiveness in interpersonal interaction, but they have diplomacy and self-control. The respondents with a low level of activity are expected to be characterized by non-communicativeness, a high degree of self-control, and actual personal problems.
