Social and psychological characteristics of professional self-determination of conservatory students

The paper presents the research findings concerning the social and psychological characteristics of professional self-determination of conservatory students. The focus is on students' self-esteem and the arrangement of the favorable environment for improving the significant indicators in this context. The survey included four stages: teacher and students collaboration planning, analysis and interpretation of techniques (‘Who am I?' test by M. Khun and T. McPartland modified by T.V. Rumyantseva, ‘Motives for Career Choice' technique by R.V. Ovcharova), career guidance sessions, analysis of findings and providing recommendations. Many students noted that they chose the university by themselves. They are aware of their advantages, which help achieve success, and their disadvantages, which they should overcome to develop. The self-confidence of the conservatory students allows them to regulate their claims and appreciate their abilities in relation to various life situations. When a student graduates from a conservatory, he is aware of himself as a musician and has an idea of his professional future. Based on the survey results, the problems of professional self-determination of the conservatory students were systematized, and the ways of their solution were determined.
