Deep changes in the field of information technology, educational and cultural transformations associated with the COVID-19 pandemic leave their mark on military affairs. In this regard, the social category of cadets who are in a barracks position and are experiencing constant physical and emotional stress is quite vulnerable. This paper is devoted to the socio-psychological maladjustment of cadets and, in particular, to the study of one of its factors in the form of social uncertainty. An empirical study conducted at the Saratov Military Order of Zhukov Red Banner Institute of the National Guard Troops has identified the problems of cadets associated with their social and professional uncertainty. On the one hand, a state of uncertainty can serve as a source of inspiration, creativity, on the other hand, it can cause feelings of unease, oppression, anxiety, and even lead to maladjustment of the individual. The paper analyzes the data obtained by correlations between the characteristics of social self-determination and the scales of socio-psychological adaptation. Only strong reliable connections were taken into account in the analysis. It has been established that the social self-determination of cadets contributes to their socio-psy-chological and professional adaptation.
