Social innovations in education: the nature and classification

The article analyzes the theoretical approaches to the scientific content of the «innovation» concept, explores different viewpoints of national scientists to a substantial component of the concept. We consider the generalized classification of innovations, with particular emphasis on the typology of innovation in education in general and higher professional education in particular. We analyze the conceptual foundations of social innovation, provide with the author's interpretation of the concept and define its importance in the education system.
