Social media as a source of information on the attitudes of Russians towards corruption

The authors attempt to study the attitudes of Russians towards corruption by analyzing information obtained from the social media platform “VKontakte”. Based on a review of English-language sources and publications by Russian scholars, a number of assumptions are made about the relationship between personal and sociodemographic characteristics and intolerance for corruption offences. The analysis of the results of the marked-up dataset found a significant correlation between the occurrence of different types of messages about corruption in social media and the characteristics of “VKontakte” platform users. The present study holds great promise for exploring the relationship between the digital attributes of social media users’ accounts and their intolerance for corruption offences.
