The article presents the results of a sociological research on the status of a pedagogue in a modern society. Due to the changing social and economical conditions, processes of informatisation the social status is found on the intersection of symbolic fields and the balance of power between agents or institutions. The data received in the course of the research allow to make a conclusion about the discrepancy between the significance of the pedagogue's social role and the prestige of his/her profession.
