The state and the problems of sunflower hybrid seed production at VNIIMK

The analysis of changements in structure of varietal sunflower sowings in main regions of the Russian Fed-eration during the period of 2001-2010 was done. The rapid increase of foreign hybrids share in the total seed mar-keting volume was noticed. Alongside with that, there is an active process of implementation of confectionary type varieties in production, which sown area had increased during the period of 2005-2010 in the farms of Krasnodar region – in 12 times, in Volgograd area – 8.4 times, Saratov area – 3.5 times. The share of the domestic sunflower hybrids in the general structure of the crop sowing is very insignificant and vary from 3.6 % in farms of Krasnodar region to 14.2 % in Rostov area. The main cause of that situation is the absence of governmental support for the hy-brid sunflower seed production sector.
