Modern Effective Methods of Teaching English at a University of Tourism

The research objective is to identify the modern effective methods of teaching English that will help students at a university of tourism to improve their English language skills both within and outside classroom activities. The article contains the analysis of methods used in teaching English at the Russian State University of Tourism and Service, as well as methods that can be successfully adapted to the conditions for teaching English at a university of tourism. The effectiveness of the proposed methods is justified. The scientific novelty of the research lies in the fact that for the first time, based on the practice of teaching English to students majoring in “Tourism” and “Hotel business” and the analysis of recent studies, relevant ways to increase the level of students’ proficiency in English are proposed. As a result, it was established that the specifics of teaching English at a university of tourism consists in the dependence of the selected teaching methods on the initial level of students’ proficiency in English, their use of English in practice and the level of grammar proficiency in English. It has been proven that the most effective ways of teaching English include teamwork and the project method, virtual excursions, the business game method, the method of analyzing specific situations and speech exercises. The results of the study can also be used to teach foreign languages to students from other non-linguistic areas of training.
