Criminological Forecasting’s Modern Trends

In the article the author analyzes the approaches of development of criminological forecasting. The article describes the existing approaches to forecasting, whichinclude the following groups of methods: logical- analytical (qualitative) methods of forecasting, which are based on an analytical research of crimes and criminogenic phenomenons, usually without the mathematical methods. The second group includes quantitative (statistical and mathematical) methods of forecasting, which are based on formalized data processing. Thirdly, a large group consists of expert methods, which are based on the generalization of professional judgments by criminologists, criminal lawyers, and officials. The author highlights it is necessary to take into account the probability of forecasting and the approximateness of the forecast, because there are many factors that influence it. It seems evident that the modern trends in criminological forecasting include: the integration of new technologies; interdisciplinary connections; the development of specific forecasts forindividual criminal behavior.
