The author studies the relationship between the personal characteristics of students and the amount of time they spend online. The study involved 151 respondents aged 17 to 24, including 110 girls and 41 men. The results obtained indicate the differences in personality traits found in people with different time spent online. Respondents, who spent less than 6 hours a day on the Internet on average showed a tendency to emotional stability, control over their behavior and emotions, conservatism, satisfaction and balance. Increased responsibility, as well as self-control over behavior and emotions may contribute to less time online per day, while emotional instability, reduced self-control over behavior may be the reason for spending more time on the Internet.
