Analysis of complications and the effectiveness of treatment of patients with locally advanced prostate cancer after combined radiotherapy and radical prostatectomy with adjuvant radiotherapy

Introduction: Treatment for prostate cancer remains a significant social problem due to the continuing trend of growth of morbidity and mortality in Russia from the disease. A real alternative to surgical treatment in recent years is radiotherapy. In the treatment of locally advanced stages of prostate cancer radiotherapy plays a dominant role. Materials and Methods: In Russian Scientific Center of Roentgenoradiology from 2005 to 2011, 105 patients with locally advanced prostate cancer and underwent complex combination treatment comprising a first group of concomitant radiotherapy using Ir-192 source and a control group of radical prostatectomy followed by adjuvant radiotherapy remote. Results: In patients treated with concomitant radiotherapy, compared with the control group occurred fewer complications genitourinary scale RTOG (5.8% vs. 32.7%). Fairly frequently encountered urinary incontinence in patients who have undergone radical prostatectomy followed by adjuvant radiotherapy.
