Comparative analysis of radical prostatectomy and brachytherapy clinical and economical results

Radical prostatectomy (RPE) and brachytherapy (BT) belong to main options of prostate cancer (CaP) treatment. Up to present time there are no researches dedicated to comparative analysis of these methods. Discovering the advantages of one of these methods may help to provide their efficiency analysis. In terms of retrospective assessment of retropubic radical prostatectomy and brachytherapy using I-125 in 300 patients with prostate cancer clinic-economic analysis was performed. Data on main expenses for these treatment options was received. Possible costs of these methods for government were assessed. Radical prostatectomy was considered more cost-effective. According to research data expenses for one recurrence free life year of patient after radical prostatectomy amounted 41668.82 rubles, after brachytherapy - 153188.36 rubles. The cost of one high-quality life year in patients after radical prostatectomy amounted 59526.9 rubles, after brachytherapy - 218840.51 rubles. Received data can be useful in working out the measures for optimization of prostate cancer surgical treatment options expenses, in development of national standards and protocols of prostate cancer treatment, in estimation of treatment charge rates due to compulsory health insurance and high-technology healthcare quotas.
