Comparative analysis of Manuel Puig's novel "El beso de la mujer arana" and Leonard Schrader's screenplay for its cinema adaptation

This article presents a comparative analysis of Manuel Puig’s novel “el Beso de la Mujer Arana” and Leonard Schrader’s screenplay for its cinema adaptation. The screenplay is seen as a particular case of interaction between literature and cinema. The article aims to reveal the common and particular between the novel and screenplay poetics as well as the novel traits that make its adaptation possible. Despite a number of poetical differences the screenplay tends to preserve inner form of the novel including its conflict system.
