The publication presents S. N. Durylin’s article “A. S. Khomyakov” from a series of essays on Slavophiles and other Russian writers, prepared by 1943 for the Literary Heritage magazine, but never published. These materials had not previously been put into scientific circulation, despite the close attention of scientists to the personality and creative legacy of the writer. In the preface, the author discusses the peculiarities of S. N. Durylin’s joining the ranks of the Soviet creative intelligentsia, which took place contrary to popular opinion in modern literary criticism, not only on an external level, but also on the level of personal and spiritual restructuring. The author suggests that the view of the philosopher’s position in the grip of Soviet reality is better characterized not by referring to the concept of two discourses (internal and external), but by using the concept of “doublethink” – the split consciousness under the yoke of a totalitarian system.
