Static renal scintigraphy in the evaluation of renal function in children with hydronephrosis: a modified method of conducting and analyzing the results of radionuclide studies

Summary Puprose: To improve methods of analysis of the results of radionuclide studies young children. Materials and Methods: The modificated by the authors static kidney scan (SKS) with integral evaluation of RFC accumulation in the renal parenchyma in infants and young children with hydronephrosis, based on discrete assessment of SKS results for individual anatomical organ zones. Results: Dynamic zonal evaluation of static renal scan in early and delayed phase of the study allows to establish the presence of dysfunctional parts of the renal parenchyma with the initial signs of impaired fixing the RFC, that could not be diagnosed with the traditional methods of static renal scan. Diagnostic efficiency increased from 13,5% to 51,4%. Conclusions: The diagnosis of early manifestations of renal tubules malfunction significantly clarifies the characteristics of the disease and determines the correct choice of treatment.
