The article presents a comparative analysis of the novel «A Love Story» by I.S. Shmelev (1927) and its adaptation in the cartoon «My Love» by A.K. Petrov (2006). The purpose of the article is to show that the author of the film was able to visually convey the stylistic richness of this novel, including stylistic contrasts between the descriptions of life and fantasies of the protagonist. The author of the article uncovers most characteristic features of stylization in «The Love Story» as the source of humor. In Shmelev’s novel stylization is associated with foreign adventurous fiction, but in «My Love» allusions of this kind do not exist. Thus, this animated adaptation of the literary text testifies to the change of cultural landmarks.
