The article deals with the dependence of the successful study of a foreign language from social and affective learning strategies. The groups of affective strategies are described. The author analyses the need to follow these strategies as a part of the personality -oriented teaching approach focused on the most possible development of the motivation to learn a language, leading to obtaining and retention of the necessary communication skills.
