Translation strategies of nicknames in an animated movie into Russian and English

The article discusses the concepts of an animated film, a nickname and defines the role of nicknames in an animated movie. The translation of nicknames is one of the most challenging activities every translator faces. It is especially complicated because nicknames usually have various allusions indicating sex, age, geographical belonging, history, personality traits, specific meaning, playfulness of language, cultural connotations, etc. As a consequence of that, the present study considers the interrelation of language, culture and human, which is realized in the linguistic picture of the world and is often reflected in nicknames. This article aims to investigate the strategies that have been used in rendering nicknames by translators in their Russian and English translations ofthe French animated movie Mune, le gardien de la lune .
