Structure and semantics of adjective derivatives in the middle high German period (on the material of suffix derivatives)

The article discusses the problem of the semantic and word-formation potential of German adjective derivatives in the Middle High German period, namely the identification and description of structural and semantic features of suffix adjective lexemes on the material of the three-volume Dictionary of the Middle High German Language (Mittelhochdeutsches Handwörterbuch). The insufficient knowledge of the Middle High German period (1050–1350), wich is an important era in the formation of the entire word-formation system of the German language, provides the basis for its comprehensive analysis. The most relevant area of research in the field of word formation is the study of word formation semantics. The lexicographic material does not provide exhaustive information about the whole set of derivative adjectives in the Middle High German language, however, the selected corpus of units is quite representative and can be considered reliable for solving the tasks. The question of creating the most complete picture of the word-forming and semantic possibilities of adjective names existing in this chronological section is very relevant. The practical value of the study lies in the fact that its results, namely the description of a specific lexical material, its analysis and presentation in tables and formulas can be used in studying the course of the history of the German language, lexicology, various special courses in word formation and semantics, as well as in comparative terms in further research on this issue. This work is interesting in that it provides an opportunity to look into the historical past of the modern German language, to delve into the etymology of adjectives, which ultimately will lead to a more meaningful perception of semantics and word-formation mechanisms for creating vocabulary units
