Introduction. Changes in the lower urinary tract in elderly and senile people include a decrease in the capacity and loss of elasticity of the bladder, as well as the occurrence of detrusor hyperactivity. The causes of these morphological and functional disorders have not been fully studied to date and are described in the literature inconsistently. However, the main role in these processes, according to most authors, is assigned to circulatory hypoxia. The aim of the study was to study structural changes in the bladder and its vascular system in elderly and senile people. Materials and methods. The material was taken during the authopsy of 15 men aged 60-80 years. In control group 10 people aged 20-30 years who died as a result of injuries were included . Results. Using a number of histological methods, it was shown that men of this age category have a combination of atherosclerotic and angiotonic changes in the vascular pool of the urinary blad-der, which are characteristic of hypertension, leading to a reduction of blood flow in the wall, ischemia and hypoxia of the detrusor musculature with the development of atrophy and sclerosis in it. Conclusions. The changes in bladder wall vasculature occurred during the aging process lead to hypoxia, sclerosis development and loss of elastic features of detrusor. This may be one the reason of lower urinary tract symptoms development in older and senile patients.
