The article discusses the results of an empirical study of the subjective perception of time by convicts during the period of serving a deprivation of liberty sentence. The conclusion is made that convicts, regardless of the number of convictions, are aware of the limitations of time as a unique and non-renewable life resource. Being in custody changed their time perception and contributed to its value and importance to the convicts. The ambivalent and contradictory perception of time by the convicts of time lies in the fact that, on the one hand, time is perceived as a long-term process, and on the other hand, it flies rapidly, irrevocably taking with it unrealized opportunities. Time while in correctional facility is perceived by convicts as an element of criminal penalties, a painful and oppressive process that is imposed and controlled from the outside, which ultimately contributes to the reduction of the active role of the individual as a subject of one' life and one's time.
