The essence of autonomous foreign language teaching for the high school students

The article deals with the issues related to the autonomous foreign language (FL) teaching of students in high school. The dynamics of the modern foreign language education has expanded the range of foreign languages (FL) studied at school. In many secondary schools and higher education institutions of Russia, foreign languages are now studied at an advanced level. Due to their specificity, these problems require the development of the complex approaches to their study, which is the subject of the research by M.P. Andreeva, E.V. Bogomolova, N.V. Travenko, I.I. Danilina, S.N. Dvoryatkina, E.Y. Nikonova, L.A. Ovchinnikova, I.M. Smirnova, M.A. Urutina, and others. The research in the methodology of teaching FLin such important spheres of the speech activity as: writing, reading, listening and speaking is relevant at the moment, the features of the autonomous FLteaching in the high school. The problem of our scientific research is connected with the choice of an algorithm of work with the students in the senior profile classes. The aim of the research is to consider the potential possibilities of teaching high school students in the profile classes to develop their oral types of the speech activity and to determine an algorithm of work with them (high school students). The research was conducted on the basis of the authentic materials in the foreign language. In our work we used various research methods: we analysed the theoretical literature, studied the normative documents, observed the learning process, conducted a comparative analysis. At the end of our research we obtained the following results: we described the theoretical foundations of autonomous learning of a foreign language in high school, defined the concepts of ‘independent work’, ‘autonomous learning activity’; considered their didactic functions; proposed various practical aspects of the development of all oral speech activities of the schoolchildren during the autonomous learning of a foreign language in the profile classes; described the algorithm of work with the high school students in the profile classes in the foreign language lessons. The author of the study came to the conclusion about the effectiveness of autonomous language teaching in the profile classes.
