The ‘native’ and ‘foreign’ in the narrative structure of The frigate Pallada by I.A. Goncharov

Statement of the problem. The article aims to consider the book “Frigate Pallada” from the point of view of its compliance with the characteristics of ancient Russian literature, represented of the genre of ‘pilgrimage’ the fundamental of which is the presence of the opposition ‘native’ / ‘foreign’, through the prism of which the traveler perceives the world around him, endowing him with certain qualities. The purpose of this article is to consider the descriptions of the ‘native’ and ‘foreign’ world in the second chapter of the book (because during the journey described in it, the traveler for the first time truly moves away from the ‘familiar’ world) given to him by the ‘new pilgrim’, to characterize through their relationship the attitude of the Russian person to the world in the context of his religiosity, spirituality as an essential feature of Russian literature, noted by many researchers, for example, G.V. Mosaleva, V.N. Zakharov, I.A. Yesaulov, M.M. Dunaev, I.A. Kazantseva. Review of scientific literature on the problem. The works by V.I. Melnik, G.V. Mosaleva, N.L. Ermolaeva are devoted to understanding the work of I.A. Goncharov from the point of view of his religiosity. Methodology (materials and methods). The methods used in the article are hermeneutical and Orthodox-axiological. Research results. As a result of the analysis of the descriptions of the ‘native’ and ‘foreign’ world, the main characteristics of the spaces are formed: the ‘foreign’ is represented by the image of the sea and Madeira, and the ‘native’ is represented by the Russian frigate as the image of the house and its crew.
