This study focuses on the way the opposition "one's own - stranger’s" is expressed in the Spanish proverbs which appear in M. Cervantes Saavedra's novel "Don Quixote". The novel is unique because in it the author used, according to different calculations, from two to three hundreds of proverbs. The proverbs reflect the wisdom and experience of the people; they also reveal the attitude towards "insiders" and "outsiders". In the process of studying the Spanish paremics presented in the novel Don Quixote, methods of interpretation, semantic, pragmatic and contextual analysis were used. The study of the way one’s own and stranger’s are perceived in the modern world is extremely topical. This is due to global migration processes and the problems in society, economy and culture that arise as a result of migration. The division into insiders and outsiders in society is reflected in language. However, this division is not new and can be traced in language through a diachronic approach. The study examines the reflection of this division of the world into insiders and outsiders in the paremy used by the great Spanish writer Miguel Cervantes in his novel Don Quixote. Among the paremics used by the writer, quite a significant part expresses the idea of the opposition between one’s own and the stranger’s. A semantic and pragmatic analysis of these paremics in the novel is carried out.
