Poultry farming is one of the most developed branches of agriculture. Currently, there are about 400 poultry farms operating in Russia, but the industry as a whole is very heterogeneously developed: 25 largest poultry farms produce almost 70 % of all poultry products. The high concentration of production in local points threatens environmental safety of entire regions. One of the main negative factors affecting the environment is poultry manure. The technology of accelerated aerobic solid-phase fermentation allows significant amount of manure to be processed in a short period with minimal environmental impact. The study includes technical and economic assessment of the passive composting and solid-phase aerobic fermentation technologies. Comparison of technologies in conditions of an operating poultry farm showed shorter payback periods - 3.39 years and 2.86 years, respectively, and environmental effect was 361.6 tons of nitrogen and 52.2 tons of phosphorus per year.
