Theism and "new atheism": to the question on controversy between A. Plantinga and D. Dennett

Бесплатный доступ

The article provides a critical analysis of the main points of public discussion by A. Planting and D. Dennett as two leading representatives of analytic theism and the so-called “new atheism” respectively. The public discussion took place in Chicago in 2009 during the session of the Central Division of the American Philosophical Association (APA). So there are considered some issues of compatibility of theistic faith and the basic principles of the theory of evolution (“pillar in the temple” of modern atheism), the validity of the main anti-theistic arguments, as well as the essence of naturalism as a philosophical and ideological basis of the “new atheism”. The conclusion is made about the internal inconsistency of the “new atheism”, its inconsistency from both theoretical and practical points of view, while emphasizing its pseudoscientific and quasi-scientific nature.
