В статье представлен анализ современных исследований отношения к смерти, теоретической основой которых являются две основные концепции. Показано, что теория управления страхом смерти рассматривает его как универсальное явление, базовый мотив поведения человека. Описан разработанный в данном подходе механизм дуальной (двухкомпонентной) защиты против тревоги смерти: проксимальная защита в виде отрицания, отвлечения от проблемы смерти и дистальная защита в виде самооценки и культурного мировоззрения. Теория управления смыслами и принятия смерти рассматривает проблему отношения к смерти в контексте смысла жизни. Систематизировано представлены условия и факторы повышения доступности мыслей о смерти и тревоги смерти. Обобщены представления о последствиях тревоги смерти для личности и поведения человека. Рассмотрены исследования отношения к суициду и эвтаназии, проблемы профессиональных, возрастных и гендерных различий. Обсуждаются основные проблемы исследования отношения к смерти.
