The article addresses the issues of formation of professionally-oriented foreign-language communication competence of natural science students on the basis of cognitive linguistics and linguodidactics with the use of the latest communication technologies. The focus is on the terminology of the major disciplines studied by the students. The relevance of the study is due to the need of effective means of forming various aspects of the professional competence of future specialists, in particular, foreign-language terminology competence, which is considered to be an important element of international professional communication. The practical significance of the research consists in the discussion of the second and third year chemistry students' project work aimed at creating multidisciplinary English-Russian dictionary of terms. The structure of the dictionary entries and the main difficulties encountered during the collective work on the project are discussed. Special attention is devoted to the stage of semantic-cognitive activity of students on the classification of dictionary units. The importance of the stage of classification for the improvement of the subject-cognitive component of the terminological competence of chemistry students is emphasized. The authors describe the resulting groups of terms reflecting the structure of Chemistry. All terms are divided into two main groups, "Fundamental Chemistry" and "Applied Chemistry", in which twelve categories are distinguished, namely "General and Theoretical Chemistry", "Inorganic Chemistry", "Organic Chemistry", "Analytical Chemistry", "Physical Chemistry (representing basic theoretical sections of Chemistry) and "Material Science", "Metallurgical Engineering", "Chemical Technology, Industrial Chemistry and Petrochemistry", "Nanochemistry and Nanotechnology", "Biochemistry and Biotechnology", "Pharmacy and Pharmacology", "Environmental Chemistry" (having predominantly applied nature).
