Terms as idea-shaping constructions of scientific and technical text

The article reviews the term-oriented theory of translation of scientific and technical articles in the field of physics, aimed at establishing the general idea of the text by translating the main group of specialized terms and creating a hierarchical term system, which will become a core of the subsequent complete translation of the text. In the course of the work, a hypothesis was put forward about the necessity of providing an algorithm for scientific and technical translation, which is based upon a term-oriented text analysis, as a prerequisite of correct interpretation. The study was carried out on the language material from several articles with translations from/into English/Russian that were published in specialized scientific journals.
