The article describes the history of research in Russian and "Western" literary studies on the work by the Russian Far Eastern abroad poet Valery Pereleshin (1913-1992). The author divides three stages of studying the work by Valery Pereleshin: the first - 1930s; the second - from the 1970s to the 1980s; the third - from the late 1990s to the present. In addition, the article identifies the main issues that have been studied by literary studies and criticism of different periods. The author refers to the following: the place of the poet’s writing in the context of Russian emigration literature; the poetics of V. Pereleshin's works; the place and significance of Chinese culture and "Chinese motifs" in his work, the peculiarities of the poet's translation activity and others. The author also reveals the main tasks facing modern literary criticism: the need to study the traditions of Russian literature in the work by emigrant writers and the peculiarities of "diasporal self-consciousness" in Pereleshin's worldview. One of the problems that requires additional research efforts is the study of not only Chinese, but also South American culture’s influence on the poet's work. It is also noted that in literary studies, a comparative analysis of Pereleshin’s poetics and other Russian Western abroad poets’ has been carried out. The author of the article also presents a brief overview of academic research (dissertations) devoted to V. Pereleshin’s life and work. The article also pays attention to literary and critical studies on Valery Pereleshin's work not only from different time periods, but also from different continents: Asia, Europe, North and South America.
