Participation of foreign libraries in educational programs STEM

The article analyzes English language scientific publications and open access resources, which showed that, for example, in the United States, libraries have become real centers of informal scientific learning and the popularization of scientific knowledge. In recent decades in many countries there is an active development of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) programs. The main goal of this process is to train qualified manpower in STEM. To coordinate and finance specialized education a system of state and non state organizations was established. STEM includes educational activities in both formal and informal settings. Researchers have established that non formal learning has a more positive effect on the assimilation of knowledge, on attitudes towards science and on the occupation of professions related to science. One of the platforms of STEM learning ecosystem are libraries. They are becoming an important venue for non formal education through science outreach activities for audiences of different ages. The inclusion of US libraries in STEM programs has expanded the librarian functions. In connection with this, the position of STEM librarian appeared. The STAR Library Network (STAR_Net) project as a national professional network plays a major role in promoting STEM education programs.
