The article considers the potential of educational tasks in the formation of mathematical literacy of younger schoolchildren. The increase in the number of flows and volume of information, the high rate of complexity and changes in technology entail an increase in uncertainty and variability in all spheres of activity, including education. Therefore, one of the main directions of the modern educational environment is the development of the student's personality, able to adapt to any conditions and changes, i.e. functional literacy becomes the key to successful activity in a changing world. The authors note that among the components of functional literacy, mathematical literacy occupies an important place. The use of mathematical knowledge in everyday life contributes to the development of a student's creative thought, the ability to independently find the right way out of an unfamiliar situation, maximize the possibilities of information and communication technologies, consciously approach their professional future, engage in self-education throughout their lives through continuous analysis and transformation of a mathematical model of various situations.
