Managing inflation: a view from sociology

Free access

The purpose of the work is to build a system of interrelated factors that determine the inflationary process, the targeted impact on which can minimize the depreciation of the money supply. The methodological basis of the concept is the ideas of John Maynard Keynes, which have been critically rethought, as well as methods of correlation and regression analysis, which make it possible to present the identified part of the factors of the inflationary process in the form of a specific system. The result is the construction of a model of the operating factors of the inflationary process, which illustrates the futility of the modern economic mainstream, based on the idea of the possibility of reducing inflation by increasing the refinancing rate. This approach can be called anti-Keynesian, since J.M. Keynes adhered to the exact opposite view, considering a reduction in the rate as a mechanism to counteract inflation. However, the recipe of J.M. Keynes without rethinking it from a sociological perspective also turns out to be not quite workable. However, the view of economic sociology on the mechanisms of managing inflationary processes makes it possible to reconsider the ideas of Keynes and propose ways to minimize the socio-economic consequences of inflation.
