The article deals with the conditions of realizing the pragmalinguistic potential of address forms in modern English public discourse by identifying a set of basic pragmatic presuppositions that reflect the correlation of social status of communicators. The results of the analysis reveal the address form as being a social category that ensures the success of the impact of the speaker on the addressee.
