This publication contains a Latin translation of the letter of the Spanish monk Valery, who, addressing the brethren of his monastery, tries to inspire them to the feats of spiritual life on the example of the pilgrim Egeria, who made an unprecedented pilgrimage to the East. Her impressions and experienced difficulties Egeria captured in detailed travel notes, which became an invaluable document of the liturgical and monastic life of the Christian East of the 4th century. The message of the monk Valery attracted the attention of researchers only at the beginning of the 20th century, as this short text sheds some light on the circumstances of the hitherto nameless pilgrim
