The impact of COVID-19 on the incidence of intestinal infections in the Republic of Buryatia

The primary incidence rates of acute intestinal infections (AII) were higher during the “pre-COVID” period than during the “COVID” period. However, the trend in morbidity from 2017 to 2019 showed a gradual and moderate decline. With the emergence of the coronavirus, the average annual growth/decline rate for AII shifted towards a slow increase. Anti-epidemic measures against COVID had the expected impact on AII incidence, resulting in a sharp decline in 2020. Conversely, the relaxation and lifting of these measures led to a significant rise in the incidence of intestinal infections in 2021 and 2022.
