Aim. The objective of this work was to study the associations between the various types of karyopathologic abnormalities in somatic cells or teratozoospermia and the genetic polymorphisms of alleles of the GSTM1 and GSTT1 genes, glutathione-S-transferase enzymes, in the genotypes of the male oil field workers with infertility. Materials and methods. The study involved 170 of the male oil field workers with infertility. Results. It was found that the frequencies of both the teratozoospermia and the various karyopathologic abnormalities in epithelial urogenital cells including micronuclei, protrusions, nuclear central circular notches, perinuclear vacuoles, karyolysis, and karyorhexis were significantly higher in a group of the workers with infertility who had homozygous genotype with the double alleles of the GSTM1(0/0) gene, compared to the workers with the normal GSTM1(+)/GSTT1 (+) allele genes. There were no statistically significant differences in the frequencies of the above-mentioned abnormalities between these groups of the workers who had the double alleles of the GSTT1(0/0) gene. Conclusion. From the correlation assay it may be concluded that there are the significant associations between the frequencies of some types of karyopathologic abnormalities in the epithelial urogenital cells and the teratozoospermia in the workers with infertility.
