The impact of information technology on the quality of the educational process

The article presents the results of theoretical studies of changes in modern teaching and learning process in conditions of education informatization and wide application of information technologies for educational purposes. Considered in details: the probability of students' overstudy and its impact on the quality of teaching; the development of "mosaic thinking" students' thinking. The causes of information overstudy in the learning process (multiple increase of information in society, information redundancy of learning environments, increasing educational materials, hypertext organization of open educational resources, a variety of educational paths, dependency of information and search behavior of the learner from his cognitive type) are given and their implications for students (reduced creative potential, the ability to think, efficiency of activity, intellectual and emotional abilities, the ability to make informed decisions). Negative aspects (decrease of concentration, the degree of knowledge assimilation, cognitive skills, the ability to build logical chains) are considered and positive sides of the "mosaic thinking" (development of visual attention, the ability to multi-task and quick adaptation to the conditions of work in information networks). The theoretical conclusions are confirmed by the results of the pilot study in Togliatti Academy of Management: half of the participating students noted the complexity of orientation in a large volume of material and difficulty of assignments; a third feels tired from such work; reaction to fatigue corresponds to the signs of information overstudy. The pedagogical experience of negative consequences prevention on the example of students' independent work organization is presented: ensuring the students' knowledge about the consequences of information overload, the development of activity self-management skills, formation of readiness to work in the Internet, the correct pedagogical planning of students' independent work.
