The article is devoted to the problem of instilling ethnic tolerance in primary schoolchildren through extracurricular activities. The problem of educating ethnic tolerance acquires particular relevance in the context of multinational teams, where it is necessary to avoid situations of inequality and national isolation of children. The multinational composition of the country's population, the socio-economic and political changes of recent decades have completely transformed the socio-demographic situation in Russian society, which requires the creation of a favorable ethno-psychological climate both in the country as a whole and in a particular region. Currently, Russia is experiencing an increase in intercultural contacts, national interactions and ethnic migration of the population. In schools, teachers increasingly have to work with classes with students of different nationalities. In such a situation, the problem of intercultural interaction and tolerance towards another culture becomes important. The relevance of the study is due to changes in society, the revival of the ethnic self-awareness of the peoples of Russia. Despite the diversity of the ethnocultural appearance of Russia, in the field of pedagogical activity there is still insufficient attention paid to the education of ethnic tolerance. Instilling mutual tolerance, civic positions, and patriotism in younger schoolchildren is considered a priority in the modern Russian education system. Any human society, regardless of its characteristics, forms means of preserving and transmitting its values. The article examines the etymology of the terms “tolerance” and “ethnic tolerance”, a means of instilling ethnic tolerance in younger schoolchildren. Methods of instilling ethnic tolerance in younger schoolchildren are also described. The features of this age are highlighted, which contribute to the formation of national character, norms of behavior and cultural traditions. Various areas of extracurricular activities are considered that create a favorable environment for instilling ethnic tolerance in children of primary school age.
